Right in the middle of CBD, with a 5 minutes walking distance from Telok Ayer Station, lies Aussie-style cafe, Sarnies. To celebrate its sixth year, Sarnies and The Entertainer App invited us to have a taste of their new dinner menu which consists of Aussie-style dinner mains. We were all in for a treat that night, with our tables filled with appetizers, side dishes, mains as well as desserts. Here are some of the new dishes we tried that night. Slider Trios $13
Grilled Haloumi, Cherry Tomatoes and Onion Jam
Pulled pork, chilli, coriander, lime and red cabbage, with Arrabbiata Sauce
For Appetizers, we were served with Slider Trios, which come in 2 selections: Grilled Haloumi with onion jam and roasted cherry (as featured in photo), and the Pulled Pork, white coleslaw and homemade BBQ sauce. What I like about it is the portion, not too huge as an appetizer, but enough to bring out the flavor. The onion jam together with the melted haloumi (cheese) is an interesting and flavorful combination. The pulled-pork tacos can be a little loose and messy for lazy eaters, but if you are down for a casual date, get your hands down to it.
Spicy Buffalo Wings $14
Next up, we had the spicy buffalo wings which blew us off. Not like your usual kind of buffalo wings, this rendition is exceptionally flavorful, all credits to more than 10 varieties of herbs and spices being seasoned with the wings, Chef Zack explained to us as he came round our table. If you have a low threshold for spiciness just like me, this might be just alright for you, although the hotness usually kicks in slowly during the after-taste.
Southern Indian Style Hand Cut Pappardelle $19.50
with prawns, coconut milk, curry leaves
Right onto the mains, featuring our most favourite dish for the night. What I like about the Southern Indian Style Pappardelle is that somehow, it tastes a little like Laksa due to the coconut milk and curry flavor. Think of it as an atas and savory version of Laksa and curry noodles, but with a light creamy curry sauce finishing. Definitely not as 'gelat' as we thought it might be. Promptly after, we finished the dish. Everyone wasn't paiseh to scoop the handmade pasta into their plates.
Texas Style burger $26.50
with overnight smoked brisket, white slaw, dijon, gherkins, bbq sauce and hand cut wedges
Burgers again, but this time round, in full Texas portion, with smokey tender brisket sandwiched between Sarnies' own freshly baked burger bun. The best supporting actress award in my opinion goes to the hand cut wedges, which are done so perfectly that it's crispy golden brown exterior caves in to the soft mushy potato filling. Stacked high up, it is almost impossible for anyone to take one single bite down the burger, but big eaters, watch out for this!
with salted caramel and chocolate sauce
Last but not the least, the dessert we were all looking forward to. Comes with 2 sauce choices, salted caramel and chocolate. Everyone, without hesitating, decided that the salted caramel sauce is more 'shiok'. Not that the chocolate sauce is any lacking, but just that we seldom see the former combination around. We could dip the cinnamon coated churros into the salted caramel sauce all day, err day.
